Body Lift

Many men and women struggle to achieve the body they have always desired following weight loss. Even though you shed the unwanted pounds, excess fat and skin often remain. It is easy to become dissatisfied with your weight-loss results when they haven’t yielded the leaner, fitter you. Pregnancy and the natural aging process also make it difficult to gain a toned appearance. A body lift is designed to remove excess tissue and restore your attractive, slimmer contours.

Who Can Benefit?

Excess Skin From Weight Loss

Men and women with excess folds of skin and fat following their weight loss

These individuals often cannot correct their skin and fat accumulations through diet and exercise. They have maintained their goal weight for at least six months and have seen little to no improvement in the quality of their skin. They may suffer from painful skin irritation due to chafing caused by their folds of skin. They typically have developed their muscle tone through exercise and require a body lift to reveal their new appearance.

Skin Laxity Post-Pregnancy

Women with skin laxity and loose abdominal muscles after pregnancy

These women have difficulty restoring their pre-baby body through natural means. In many cases, their abdominal muscles remain stretched, causing a stomach pooch. Fat accumulations around the abdomen, hips, and thighs during pregnancy may have left troublesome excess skin and fatty deposits. These women are looking to achieve a body contour that is either the same or better than it was before their pregnancy.

Tissue Accumulation

Men and women with skin accumulation that is the result of natural aging

Aging can cause the collagen in our tissues to become weak, which affects the elasticity of the skin. Over time, a healthy diet and exercise regimen does little to prevent the natural sagging that may occur around the abdomen, hips, and thighs. This excess tissue may be aging your appearance and preventing you from wearing the clothing styles you like and engaging in activities you enjoy.

What Do You Desire?

A Flatter Abdomen

The main component of a body lift is the tummy tuck, which addresses issues with your abdomen. This is ideal for all types of patients, especially women post-pregnancy. Not only is excess abdominal tissue trimmed away, but the abdominal muscles can be tightened. These techniques can help you achieve a flatter, more toned midsection.

Addressing Your Concerns

You will experience some bruising and swelling following your procedure. Drains may be placed, and you will wear a compression garment to minimize any excess swelling. You may be required to stay in the hospital for two to three days following your surgery so your recovery can be monitored.

The full length of your recovery will depend on the extent of correction undergone to achieve your goals. Most patients can return to work within two weeks of their procedure. You will need to limit your strenuous physical activities for three to six weeks following your procedure. You can resume regular exercise with your surgeon’s approval. Most major swelling should subside within six weeks, at which time your results will become apparent.

Fine incisions are placed in locations that can be easily concealed to prevent visible scarring. However, due to the extensive nature of the body lift procedure and your natural healing process, some scarring may develop. All scars will likely fade over time.

The cost of your body lift will depend on the extent of correction required to help you achieve your desired results. Surgical, facility, and anesthesia fees all factor into the cost of your body lift procedure. Dr McManamny will provide you with detailed pricing following your consultation.

A body lift is performed with the patient under general anesthesia for a safe and painless procedure. While patients will likely experience some discomfort during their recovery, it can be controlled using oral pain medication.

Before & Afters

Frequently Asked Questions About Body Lift Surgery

What if I have excess skin on more than just my lower body?

Excess skin accumulations on all areas of the body are very common following massive weight loss. These patients usually combine other contouring procedures with their body lift, such as an arm lift, neck lift, or breast lift.

Why do I have to maintain my weight for at least six months before undergoing my body lift?

Weight gain or loss following your body lift will negatively affect your results. It is suggested that patients only undergo a body lift once they have reached their goal weight and have maintained their results. It is also advised that patients only choose to undergo a body lift once they are finished having children because a subsequent pregnancy will negatively affect the results as well.

Can a body lift improve the appearance of a poorly positioned navel?

After pregnancy or massive weight loss, many patients have a navel that has moved downward. During the tummy tuck portion of your surgery, the navel can be repositioned to a more natural location on the abdomen.

How long will my results last?

Patients who maintain their weight often have results that last many years. With proper diet and exercise, a body lift is designed to provide long-lasting results that will leave you feeling comfortable and confident in your body.
